I am currently in the middle of teaching two upholstered ottomans and footstool classes here at Arrowmont. One class is in the evenings with local adults and the other is on weekends with local highschool students. Here is a photo from the other night when my students were learning how to sew welt cord and staple their fabric on.
I am working on some new sculpture for our Artist in Residence Exhibition at Arrowmont. The exhibition opens in March here are some in process shots of the new work. I've also posted some drawings to give a better idea of what they will look like. Our opening will be April 10th 7-9pm here in Gatlinburg at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts! We are also looking forward to our visiting critic Bruce Metcalf! He will be speaking with us individually about our work and giving a lecture some time in late April, Date is TBD. I had a request for some works like I did awhile ago. So I spent sometime revisiting some of those forms and processes here at Arrowmont. Here is some of that work installed with the other residents here at Arrowmont for one of our installations. You can also see some this work in my store in the tab at the top of the page!
I taught a workshop this past week at Appalachian Center for Crafts at Tennessee Tech University. We had a great time making upholstered ottomans and footstools. Each student worked hard and came away with a pair of ottomans! Here are some images from the workshop.
Fresh off the truck! Huge thanks to Powermatic, The Furniture Society, and of course all of those who voted for me in the powermaticICFF competition!
